Mamma – you know we had PJ day at school and I wore my favourite bunny PJs from Nanna?
Yep.
Well…at playtime I fell down on the rough ground and I made a hole in them.
Oh no! Well I guess they aren’t really made for going to school in.
Will you fix them for me?
(Me thinking….Seriously? Me? Your faith in me is great kid but there is every chance you’ll end up with a leg sewn shut because I forgot to separate the front and back of it before stitching.)
Er, sure….I’ll try anyhow.
No rush, I’ll just wear the top with my favourite comfy track pants from Nanigh.
(she has a habit of including intense details in all sentences, have you noticed?)
So out came my sewing machine.
Then my needle and thread.
Cup of peppermint tea, Walkman on (borrowed the kid’s computer headphones…dang I am the epitome of cool right now *note the sarcasm*).
Stitch, stitch…a lot easier than sewing on Scout badges for sure.
Finish off with one of my patented beginner sewer birds nest knots.
My eye follows the wobbly line of stitching.
I fold them carefully and put them on the end of her bed.
I wonder what she will say when she sees them.
Knowing my TFG she’ll not miss a beat.
And in my heart I know that, despite my distinct lack of skill with a needle, I sewed it with love.
